Accelerated Resolution Therapy

is a unique way of relieving the pain of intrusive thoughts and feelings.

A.R.T. is gaining prestige for healing trauma. A trained ART Therapist guides the client to replace negative images in the mind that cause the symptoms of Post-Traumatic Stress with positive images of the client’s choosing. Done quickly, most problems are resolved within one session. Once the negative images have been replaced in Accelerated Resolution Therapy, the triggers to the trauma will be gone. Nightmares cease. Panic is decreased. Situations that used to be unbearable no longer are. Reprogramming the distressing memories frees you from triggers. Most clients who are new to Accelerate Resolution Therapy are pleasantly surprised at relief after a session.*

Our brains are capable of positively modifying unwanted reactions.

Accelerated Resolution Therapy uses rapid eye movements, similar to those that happen while dreaming, to adjust how the body is affected by distressing images and memories.

Accelerated Resolution Therapy has similarities to EMDR, but A.R.T. is designed so that treatment will be fully completed as soon as possible. Many are freed of their problem within one session. EMDR focuses on cognitions. ART does not focus on cognitions.  While EMDR is focused on cognitions and free associates during its eight-phase process, ART works to move clients to resolution, whenever possible, in one session. The final few minutes of this TedTalk with ART’s creator is a postal worker’s experience after trying Accelerated Resolution Therapy for the first time.

Peer reviewed publications and additional on-going studies for both civilians and military personnel can be found here.

*Clients who have used A.R.T. in Gates Therapy and did not express surprise at their degree of relief afterwards returned to future sessions having forgotten the level of distress their problem entailed. Some clients did not report on their experience and only when asked said that they'd forgotten about it and hadn't thought about their original problem-- that it hadn't come up, despite the problem they brought in being quite distressing at the time.
