Group is a place to develop your skills at accepting yourself- what you like, what you want to change, and what you weren’t even aware of, with the help of other trustworthy women who are doing the same. The strength of our support comes from trusting each other and from our willingness to say and hear hard things.
This is why is is so important to bring your curiosity to group.
One way we’ll stoke our sense of curiosity is with an exercise called Hot Seat. Each person will get a turn in the Hot Seat where she is asked questions by everyone else. She may always say “I’d rather not answer that,” or take as little or as much time as she’d like answering each person’s question. The rest of the group just listens, with no comment.
Be thinking about some of the questions you might ask during Hot Seat in our next group meeting. Here are some examples…
Example Hot Seat Questions
-
What is your favorite thing about your personality?
-
What is something you have accomplished that your past self would be amazed by?
-
Where do you feel most centered and happy?
-
As a friend, what is your best quality?
-
Why is learning to love and accept yourself more important to you?
-
What is a habit that you feel good about and hope you keep?
-
When you feel really down, what is the best thing someone who loves you could do for you?
-
What do you wish people better understood about you?
-
Do you long for more alone time or less alone time?
-
What is a characteristic you inherited from your parents? How do you feel about it?
-
What is the compliment you receive most often?
-
If you woke up one morning and all of your problems were solved, what would you do that day?
These are just examples- jot some down or go wild and come up with your own that you’d like to learn about each other. Have your questions ready because each person is only in the Hot Seat for a few minutes. (Don’t worry- we’ll do this again soon!)
